When is Mother's Day?

Mother's Day falls on the second Sunday in May. Since it changes each year, it is sometimes a difficult date to remember.

If you woke up this morning and suddenly realized, "Oh no, it's Mother's Day, and I haven't done anything for Mom!", we have some ideas that can help.

If you leave near your Mom:
  • Bring her some flowers. These should be easy to come by at any supermarket or florist
  • If your Mom loves gardening, stop by a garden center and buy her some flowers that she can plant. Tulips are a wonderful option this time of year.
  • Pick up a gift card at your local supermarket or drugstore. Many of the large chain store not only have greeting cards (which you may want!), but they also have displays of gift cards for many top retailers and restaurants.
  • Take her out: to eat, to a movie, to a museum...whatever she would like
  • Invite her over for a home-cooked meal, or bring a meal to her home
If you don't live near your Mom:
  • Give her a call and let her know that you are thinking of her
  • Send her an "e-gift" card. Many merchants have the option of sending their gift certificates via email. If you Mom uses the computer and has an email address, this can be a quick and easy option.
  • Call a florist in her local area to see if there are any options available.
  • If you have a sibling that lives near your Mom and will be visiting with her today, talk with them to see if they are willing to include something in the visit that will be from you. Example: your sister will be spending the day with your Mom. Ask her if she is willing to take them both out to lunch or to the movies, and you will foot the bill. Follow-up promptly and send a check to your sibling to cover the cost.
Most of all, don't panic. Just let your mother know that you remember her on this special day.
